Silky folding saws
EXPERT KNOWLEDGE SILKY FOLDING SAWS
Silky has specialised in Japanese hand saws of the highest quality (Made in Japan) since 1919. The combination of innovative features such as shaping, low weight, new tooth shapes and relief-ground saw blades ensure maximum cutting durability and precision. A comprehensive range makes Silky one of the world's leading saw manufacturers.
What characterises a Silky folding saws?
Unique saw blades: Most Silky saw blades have a hollow grind across the blade width. This unique grinding process, based on hollow-scraped Japanese saws made by hand, enables low-friction sawing and, due to the lack of bevelling in most cases, the cleanest kerfs.
High-quality mechanics: The folding mechanism is designed for the purpose of each Saws and the associated loads. When folded, the saw blade is held securely in place. High-quality materials and precise manufacturing ensure stability, functionality and a long service life. You can easily replace the saw blade on all Silky folding saws.
Ergonomic handles: The shape of the handle on every folding saws is also adapted to its intended use. For example, a straight handle is suitable for precise cuts in dry wood or horizontal saw cuts (felling trees). For overhead work when pruning fruit trees, on the other hand, a curved saw blade and a correspondingly angled handle are advantageous. Most of the weatherproof handles have a non-slip rubber coating.
Which Silky folding saws to buy?
The range of Silky folding saws is huge. There is a suitable folding handsaw for different tasks. Here are a few tips for choosing:
- Wet or dry wood? For work in the garden and forest, the saw blade should be relatively coarsely toothed in order to be able to remove the wet chips. A classic for rough gardening work is the Silky Bigboy 2000, while for finer saw cuts with smooth cutting surfaces in dry wood, the teeth should be finer, such as on the Silky Woodboy, a Japanese Kataba saw with fine cross-cut teeth. Some Silky saws, such as the Silky Gomboy, are also available as a set with two interchangeable blades with different teeth so that you can use them for both wet and dry wood.
- Workshop, garden or on the go? If you are looking for a saw for outdoor activities, camping or bushcraft, it is best to choose a compact pocket saw such as the Pocketboy 170. When closed, it is so small and light that you can easily stow it in your rucksack or carry it on your belt in the plastic quiver supplied. The Outback Edition offers Saws especially for Hunting and Outdoor use. Size and Weight are less important if you need the Saws at home, in the workshop or in the garden. Then choose a Saws that best suits your purpose.
- Horizontal cuts or overhead? If you are looking for a pruning saw that is mainly used for overhead cuts, choose a saw with a curved blade. The curve makes it easier to position and cut above shoulder height. If you need the saw more for felling trees and trimming hedges, a saw with a straight blade is easier to position and guide.
- Pruning or felling? When trimming hedges or clearing shrubs, you need to be able to guide the saw between branches and twigs and cut with it. Choose a compact saw for this, such as the Silky F180. When felling trees, you usually have more space and can use a Length saw. For effective cuts, the blade should be about twice as long as the Diameter of the trunk. The Silky Katanaboy, which is available in various lengths up to 650 mm, is almost legendary. Saws as fast as with a chainsaw.
Can I change the saw blade on Silky Saws?
You can easily replace and renew the blade on all Silky folding saws. A simple screwdriver is usually all you need to loosen a single screw to insert the replacement saw blade. We keep suitable replacement blades for all Silky Saws in stock for the long term!
