Disposal of old electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)
The following information is intended for private households using electrical or electronic equipment. Please read the following important information to ensure the environmentally sound disposal of old devices – and to protect your personal safety.
1. Disposal of old electrical and electronic equipment and meaning of the symbol according to Annex 3 of the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG)
Owners of waste electrical and electronic equipment are legally required to dispose of these devices separately from unsorted household waste. Old devices must not be discarded with regular household waste and, in particular, must not be placed in the residual waste bin. Instead, such items must be collected separately – for example via local collection points or municipal return systems.
In addition, any removable batteries or rechargeable batteries that are not built into the device must be removed before disposal and disposed of separately.
This does not apply to devices that are separated by public waste management authorities for the purpose of preparing them for reuse, as set out in § 14(5), sentences 2 and 3 of the ElektroG.
Devices that are subject to separate disposal requirements can be identified by the symbol in accordance with Annex 3 of the ElektroG: a crossed-out wheeled bin, indicating that the device must not be disposed of with unsorted municipal waste.
2. Options for returning old devices
In accordance with the ElektroG, we are obliged to accept old devices or to provide suitable collection points for private households to return them. Please contact our customer service team (Tel: +49 (0)9931 4058-901, Email: info@dictum.com) if you would like to:
-
return small electronic devices (maximum edge length 25 cm) without purchasing a new item, or
-
return larger old devices when purchasing a new item of the same type (i.e. one that performs essentially the same functions as the old device)
You may also return your old devices in person at one of our store locations or by sending them to our distribution centre: DICTUM GmbH • Gottlieb-Daimler-Str. 3 • 94447 Plattling (Germany)
Please note: if a device is heavily soiled and poses a health or safety risk, we reserve the right to refuse acceptance.
You may also return old devices through the collection and return systems provided by your local municipal waste authority, ensuring proper disposal. Some locations may also allow devices to be submitted for reuse. Further information is available from your local collection or return point.
3. Data protection notice
Old devices that are to be disposed of may contain personal or sensitive data (e.g. on PCs or smartphones) that must not fall into the hands of third parties.
Please note that you, as the end user, are responsible for deleting all personal data from any device prior to disposal.
