Rust looseners / rust erasers
EXPERT KNOWLEDGE RUST LOOSENERS RUST ERASERS
How does rust develop?
Rust is the result of a chemical reaction in which iron or steel comes into contact with oxygen and moisture and forms iron oxide. This process, also known as oxidation, is intensified by humidity, rain and salt, which leads to a faster spread, especially in coastal and humid environments. If rust is not treated, it penetrates deeper into the metal and spreads, weakening the structure of the metal and eventually leading to material failure.
Functionality and composition of the different rust removers
Rust removers work by dissolving and removing the oxidised layers, protecting the underlying metal and preventing future rusting. Rust removers usually contain special solvents and additives that combat corrosion and prevent the formation of rust. Many modern rust removers are biodegradable and low in harmful substances, which increases their environmental compatibility and makes them safer to use.
There are different types of rust removers: Some act mechanically through abrasion, others chemically and penetrate rust layers with the help of penetrating oils. They often also act as lubricants and contact sprays, making them versatile for use on moving (e.g. hinges) and electrical parts.
Application examples and product comparison
Rust remover gel (product number: 705488)
Properties: This gel removes rust quickly and easily and is particularly suitable for large, uneven surfaces. It is applied undiluted with a sponge to rusty areas and left to take effect. As it does not attack wood or most plastics, the gel is also suitable for use on sensitive surfaces.
Special features: This rust remover is biodegradable and effective as it leaves a clean, rustproof surface with minimal effort.
Restore rust remover (product number: 705487)
Properties: This acid-free rust remover is mixed with water, which makes it economical for larger components as they can be immersed. By placing the parts in the rust remover, the rust is slowly removed without attacking the underlying materials. As the product is biodegradable, it is environmentally friendly and safe to use.
Application: Ideal for corrosion protection in the workshop. After use, a protective layer remains that prevents rust from forming again.
Weicon rust remover and contact spray (product number: 450420)
Properties: This rust remover and contact spray is particularly suitable for the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical components. Thanks to its high creeping properties, it can also penetrate into narrow gaps and effectively dissolve rust there. It also protects against corrosion and oxidation, displaces moisture and reduces the electrical resistance of contacts.
Advantages: The 3-way spray valve allows it to be sprayed from any position, even overhead, making use flexible and precise. This rust remover also serves as a lubricant for moving parts and ensures perfect functionality of screws, hinges and joints. Advantages of rust removers
Advantages of rust removers
Rust removers are not only important for removing rust, but also for protecting surfaces and the long-term maintenance of appliances and components. Choosing the right product depends on the type of metal and the use. Products such as Rust Remover Gel offer a quick and easy solution for visible rust spots, while Restore Rust Remover is ideal for larger parts that require immersion. For electrical and mechanical uses, the Weicon Rust Remover and Contact Spray is the perfect choice, not only treating rusty areas but also acting as a lubricant and moisture protection at the same time.
How grate erasers work
Rust erasers are practical tools for the mechanical removal of light rust stains on metal surfaces. Rust erasers remove rust by abrasion without causing severe damage to the underlying metal. They often consist of a combination of special abrasive materials such as glass fibres or abrasive rubber.
The mode of action of a rust eraser is purely mechanical: the superficial layers of rust are removed by friction, which is ideal for small, localised rust spots such as on tools, screws or small metal parts. Unlike chemical rust removers, rust erasers do not attack the metal and are generally well suited for precision work where chemical treatment would be too problematic.
A key advantage of rust erasers is their ease of use and precise application, which precisely limits the working area. They are also an environmentally friendly alternative as they do not use harmful chemicals and therefore leave no residue.
