Resin solvent
EXPERT KNOWLEDGE RESIN SOLVENT
Resin solvent for workshop, forestry and garden
Resin solvents are specially developed substances that effectively remove resin, adhesive residues and resinous residues from tools and machines. They are particularly indispensable in woodworking, forestry and gardening, as they dissolve even the most stubborn stains without damaging the surfaces. Use is simple: spray onto gummy areas, leave to act briefly and then wipe off. Ideally, a preservative such as Ballistol universal oil should be applied afterwards to maintain the tool and prevent corrosion.
Range of application
- Hand tools: Resin solvents are perfect for Planes, Chisels and gummy saw blades. Due to the foaming, the cleaner adheres well and does not drip, which enables targeted use. In the case of heavily soiled chisels and plane irons, for example, it can be useful to first dissolve the resin before sharpening in order to prevent the sharpening devices used from sticking.
- Resin solvent for woodworking machines: Resin solvents are essential for keeping machine tables and guides on woodworking machines such as Planes and milling machines free of resin and able to slide smoothly. Especially after a project in which wood with a high resin content has been processed, a tough film of resin and dust is sometimes found on the table surfaces. This film can impair the gliding properties and precision. Resin solvent effectively removes resinous deposits from the table: simply spray on, leave to work for a short time and then wipe off. It is then advisable to apply a maintenance oil or lubricant, such as Ballistol Universal Oil or Silbergleit, to keep the table gliding smoothly and protect the surface from renewed soiling and corrosion.
- Forestry and gardening tools: Resinous blades and cutting tools that come into contact with tree resin and plant sap are particularly easy to clean in forestry and gardening work. For example, we stock the solvent-free and food-safe cleaning spray from Barnel, which was developed to easily remove resin residues and sticky tree sap from secateurs.
Mode of action of resin solvents
A conventional Resin solvent, such as the Ballistol Resin solvent from our range, is based on special solvents and works by targeted chemical decomposition and dissolution of resins. Its ingredients penetrate deep into the resin structure and aim to break or weaken the polymer bonds within the resin. This liquefies the resin and makes it easier to wipe off.
The exact chemical mode of action typically includes
- Dissolving polymer bonds: The solvents contained, often based on hydrocarbons, attack the polymer chains of the resin. This loosens the bonds between the molecules in the resin, which reduces the strength and stickiness of the resin.
- Surface relaxation: The solvents change the surface tension of the resin, making it easier to remove the resinous material from surfaces. Ballistol Resin Solvent also foams up, which increases the direct contact and dwell time of the agent on the resin-laden surface and accelerates the dissolution of the resin.
- Viscosity reduction: The agent changes the viscosity of the resin and makes it more fluid so that it is easier to spread and remove.
Ballistol Resin solvent
For cleaning resinified tools and woodworking machines of all kinds. Spray on briefly and the resin can be removed easily and residue-free.
- Effective cleaner for burnt-in resin residues.
- For saw blades, plane irons, chisels and other resinified tools.
- Extremely economical and easy to use.
- Foams up - no dripping.
- Spray on - wipe off - done.
After cleaning, apply Ballistol Universal Oil to neutralise the Resin Solvent and preserve the tool.
Ballistol Resin solvent is available in two containers: 0.15 litres and 0.75 litres, each as a pump spray.
Resin solvents are indispensable helpers for trade, industry and household when it comes to removing stubborn resin and adhesive residues effectively and gently. They enable reliable cleaning of tools, machines and sensitive surfaces, thus ensuring optimum function and longevity.
