Craftsmanship is most rewarding when you get hands-on experience yourself. At KursWerkstatt München, you can explore a wide range of courses in woodworking, leatherworking, tool and knife sharpening, and much more. With small class sizes and professional equipment, there is something for everyone, from complete beginners to experienced craftspeople.
DICTUM Courses Continue at KursWerkstatt München GmbH!
The workshop will continue to be run independently by the instructors who have brought it to life over many years, while maintaining a close friendship and partnership with DICTUM. Familiar faces, the same workshop, the same passion and the same address (Haager Str. 9). Only the name on the door has changed.
Here, you can get hands-on and make something of your own. In small groups, you will create individual pieces from wood and leather, guided by experienced carpenters and leatherworkers. Whether you are picking up a plane for the first time, bringing your own ideas to life, refining your techniques or discovering traditional craft practices, you will find the right course here. Tool and knife sharpening courses are also part of the programme.
If you spend your working day in front of a screen, our courses offer the perfect change of pace. And at the end, you will have something tangible to show for your efforts: a stool, a Japanese wood joint or a hand-stitched leather belt.

Sharpening Fine Knives
Learn how to sharpen knives to perfection using waterstones while being gentle on the blade.
Intensive Joinery Workshop
In this four-day workshop, you can bring your own woodworking project to life.
Folding Stool with Medieval Mortise-and-Tenon Joints
Build a medieval folding stool and discover traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery in practice.
Basic Woodworking Workshop
Learn how to use saws, chisels and hand planes safely, along with the fundamentals of tool care, wood selection and traditional woodworking joints.
THE INSTRUCTORS
Peter Lanz
Peter Lanz is the workshop manager at KursWerkstatt and a qualified carpenter. His professional experience includes working as a set builder and fine furniture maker. For over 20 years, he has been teaching courses in woodworking, sharpening and leatherworking, as well as project-based workshops covering items such as caskets and three-legged stools.
Hauke Schmidt
Hauke Schmidt is a master carpenter who lives and works in Cologne. He designs and builds his own furniture and teaches solid wood craftsmanship, from hobby courses to advanced training for master carpenters. For him, teaching and learning go hand in hand. And every now and then, he even turns ordinary roof battens into works of art.
Melanie Kirchlechner
Melanie Kirchlechner is a carpenter, furniture conservator and sculptor. She is passionate about exploring wood as a material with as few creative restrictions as possible, encouraging participants to bring their own ideas to life in wood. As a specialist author, she regularly shares insights into her work.
Katja Dapous
Internationally active master carpenter Katja Dapous has an exceptional background in surface finishing and restoration. Her career began in workshops in Munich and Berlin. In Munich, she also worked for Steinway & Sons.
IMPRESSIONS
The Workshop
Courses take place in bright, fully equipped rooms: a woodworking shop with traditional workbenches and two machine rooms featuring panel saws and bandsaws. High-quality hand tools are also available for every stage of the process. Class sizes are kept small, with a maximum of ten participants per course and just six for the intensive week-long workshop. This ensures plenty of time for individual questions and guidance at every step. Courses are taught in German. However, all our instructors speak English well, and international participants are very welcome.
