Yakisugi Knife Block, Oak

Japanese tradition combined with elegant design

Fine knives should not be stored in a cutlery drawer or on a magnetic bar, as magnetisation complicates the sharpening process. We recommend this knife block, specifically designed for Japanese Hocho knives, distinguished by its exceptional design. The solid wooden block with stabilised Yakisugi surface stands like a monolith in the centre of the oiled oak knife block. Its substantial weight ensures stability, and the circular arrangement allows for quick access. It holds up to six knives with a maximum blade length of 280 mm, a blade width of 60 mm and 5 mm blade thickness. Outer dimensions approx. 165 x 105 x 295 mm.
Yakisugi is sometimes also referred to as »Shou Sugi Ban« in Western countries.
Yakisugi is a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation. Through the charring process, it acquires its distinctive deep-black soot layer.
The knife block is manufactured in Germany according to our quality criteria. The soot layer is stabilized, sealed, and thus securely fixed.
