EXPERT KNOWLEDGE RASPING AND FILING
Terminology
rasps
Our Herdim rasps and Superhard file rasps are indispensable tools for carpenters, restorers and musical instrument makers. As the working surface of the rasp consists of individual teeth, a more or less rough surface is created depending on the tooth density and Size, which is then further processed. Similar to files, the fineness of the rasp is characterised by cut numbers, from 3 for coarse to 10 for extremely fine. Microplane rasps and Japanese saw rasps are also new developments on the market and are steadily conquering more and more work areas. Rasps are used for processing hardness and softwood, leather, plastic, plaster, marble and soft metals.
Files
Files are used on wood after rasping to smooth the surface and for precise shaping. Their domain, however, is metalworking. The Glardon/Vallorbe® files manufactured in Vallorbe, which form the centrepiece of our range, were originally produced for the Swiss watchmaking industry. Their quality standards have made Glardon/Vallorbe® the world market leader for precision files, to which there are no alternatives in terms of sharpness and service life.
