For which areas does DICTUM offer hand tools?
Even though our company history began more than 170 years ago with special tools for instrument making, we are committed to craftsmanship in general. For many years, DICTUM has been offering a wide range of high-quality hand tools for various trades and activities:
- Woodworking tools such as Saws, Planes, Drills and more for joinery, carpentry, for carving and for instrument making
- Metalworking tools such as files, screwdrivers, pliers etc. for locksmithing, forging, knife making and more
- Leather tools such as crescent knives, belt cutters, sewing clamps and more for saddlery and bag making
- Paper tools such as cutter knives, folding bone, cutting pads for bookbinding and handicrafts

High-quality hand tools from around the world
Always on the lookout for good tools, we have maintained relationships with numerous tool manufacturers at home and abroad for a Lengthy period of time. Hand tools made in Germany, for example by Bessey, ECE, Kunz and Ulmia, are just as much a part of our range as well-known brand manufacturers from Austria and Switzerland (e.g. Victorinox and Stubai). Also in our range: tools from the UK, USA, Canada and Australia - including Manufacturers such as Crown, Henry Taylor, Stanley and Veritas. Some measuring and marking tools that are only available in inches in their country of origin have been adapted to the metric system in collaboration with the manufacturers.
As one of the first tool dealers in Europe, we have been importing high-quality hand tools from Japan for more than 50 years. DICTUM is known for original Japanese saws and Japanese knives with a guarantee of origin. Others in Asia have raised the quality of their hand tools to a high level in recent years and we have added these to our range.
Hand tools from our own production
We produce a large proportion of the tools that we carry as our own brands ourselves or have them manufactured by selected partner companies. We have been doing this for more than 100 years under the Herdim® brand in the field of musical instrument making. Our product managers and designers develop our tools - from the first part drawing for hand tools to complex assemblies for power tools. Prototypes are extensively tested for practical suitability by our specialists, course instructors and sometimes also by selected customers. Only when all tests have been completed to our satisfaction do we start series production. This gives us the flexibility to react directly to customer requirements and market changes.
