This first-class chisel series from Teiichiro Okubo is distinguished by a steel combination that is unusual for Japanese chisels. SKH51 HSS (65 HRC), which is normally only used for machine manufacturing due to its low forgeability, serves as the cutting layer. Teiichiro Okubo forge-welds the extremely hard-wearing steel by hand with a shock-absorbing steel layer created specifically for this purpose. The tightly forged Damascus layers with their annual ring-like structure and iridescent blue-violet/bronze glow reflect the name of this series. Fine details, such as the multi-grooved back, forged steel hoop and oiled handle, show the chisel is completely handmade.

    Teiichiro Okubo

Master smith Teiichiro Okubo began learning the art of tool forging at just 14 years old. He follows in the legendary footsteps of his grandfather Teijiro Okubo, who has been honoured with the Japanese Prime Minister Gold Medal and the Presidential Prize for his life’s work. As one of the few smiths in Japan, Teiichiro is also a recognised Koshiki Tanren, or chisel smith, who makes his tools completely by hand.
