HNT Gordon Spokeshave, Straight Sole, HSS Blade
This perfectly crafted spokeshave with a fine plane mouth and straight sole is used for the finest chip removal when machining all flat and elongated curved shapes such as on bows, in furniture making, rungs and edges. Blade tilt of 55°, for excellent results even on hard, difficult wood. As the blade can be turned over, the spokeshave can also be used as a scraper for difficult grains. The HSS blade used (hardness 62 HRC) is ideal for this purpose. The handles on the solid brass plane body are made of gidgee (acacia cambagei).
Gidgee (acacia cambagei) is one of the hardest woods besides desert ironwood. It grows all over Australia. Due to the very long drying process, this wood is only collected as dead wood and is therefore very rare.
