HNT Gordon Spokeshave, Curved Sole with 10 mm Radius, HSS Blade
This perfectly crafted spokeshave with a fine plane mouth and curved sole is used for the finest chip removal when machining very tight inside curves, such as those found in furniture making. The radius of the plane sole is 10 mm. Blade tilt of 60°, for excellent results even on hard, difficult wood. As the blade can be turned over, the spokeshave can also be used as a scraper for difficult grains. The HSS blade used (hardness 62 HRC) is ideal for this purpose. The handles on the brass plane body are made of gidgee (acacia cambagei).
Gidgee (acacia cambagei) is one of the hardest woods besides desert ironwood. It grows all over Australia. Due to the very long drying process, this wood is only collected as dead wood and is therefore very rare.
