Shaving Horse - Versatile and Individually Adjustable
The shaving horse is used to clamp irregular, round or curved wooden parts. Using a drawknife, you can shave log wood and make tool handles or other wooden parts, even roofing shingles. Fully adjustable to fit your height, the shaving horse you build on this course will allow you to work effortlessly and save energy. The angle and height of the support and footboard can be adjusted quickly and easily via hole or toothed rails. The head of the draw bench has a clever wooden tooth mechanism with which you can quickly set it to the thickness of the workpiece. The fully adjustable seat can be removed so that the shaving horse can also be used as a saw horse.
The bench is made of roughly cut individual parts of maple, beech and cherry wood, using either hand tools or machines. We will focus especially on the ingenious wooden gear teeth, cutting the mechanism exactly with the help of jigs. If there is enough time left, you will learn how to use the shaving horse and different drawknives correctly. Each participant will build their own shaving horse. Dimensions 140 x 55 x 100 cm.
