Master smith Akio Tasai has achieved legendary status among Japan’s metalworkers, particularly for his mastery of the Mokume technique. His son, Michio Tasai, continues this lineage, earning his Japanese swordsmith’s licence—the highest distinction in the craft—at the age of 38 after eight years of rigorous training under master swordsmith Takano Yukimitsu.
