Dovetailed toolbox with Christopher Schwarz
Dovetailed toolbox with Christopher Schwarz
Chris Schwarz, the internationally renowned woodworking expert and author, once again spent a week at the DICTUM workshop centre this year.
From 20–26 June 2011, participants from around the world gathered at the new DICTUM course centre in Niederalteich to refine their skills, discover new techniques, and complete a project under Chris’s expert guidance. As part of a two-day course, the focus was on »Precise sawing« – and practising proper sawing technique. Even experienced woodworkers were surprised at how much time and effort can be saved by using the right method.
The second course involved an ambitious project: each participant built a large, hand-jointed toolbox in traditional form within 5 days. As a recent author of the book »The Anarchist's Tool Chest«, Chris Schwarz has been working intensively on the subject of classic tool chests for a long time and was not only able to impart woodworking expertise to the participants, but also shed light on the historical development of the tool chest. At the end of the course, all participants were proud of their self-built, sturdy and excellently crafted toolbox, certainly a unique piece that will be enjoyed by future generations of woodworkers.
Furniture making
By Fritz Spannagel. First published in 1954, this classic has lost none of its relevance to this day. Its importance is due to the systematic work instructions, explanatory illustrations and detailed descriptions of joints and other woodworking techniques. The book is aimed primarily at carpenters in training and at work, but also at architects and teachers of the woodworking trade.
