This book, first published in 1678, was the first English-language woodworking book. In the book, Moxon describes all the hand tools still in use today and how they are used. A treasure trove for all those who would like to use more hand tools in their workshops. The complete original text and drawings are explained with contemporary comments and photos to make the often difficult language easier to understand. Chris Schwarz explains the historical context of Moxon’s explanations. The appendix shows illustrations from André Félibien’s "Des principes de l’architecture, de la sculpture, de la peinture…" (1676), which may have served as a basis for Moxon’s own illustrations.
