Which airbrush colour is suitable for wood?
- Glazing colour application. With a glaze application, the wood grain remains visible and the character of the wood is preserved. Spirit stains are very suitable for this. They are available in numerous, finely graduated colour shades and are easy to apply with an airbrush, brush, sponge or applicator. The stains can be mixed with each other to create Matériau du manche colour shades. As the colour application is not opaque, you can also combine the colours on the workpiece so that, for example, a gradient of the two colours blue and yellow contains green in the middle. When repairing and restoring, this means that added wooden parts can be perfectly matched to the original furniture.
- Opaque colour application. With an opaque application, the substrate is completely covered by the layer of paint and is no longer recognisable. Opaque Colour is therefore primarily used for artistic and decorative work where the appearance of the substrate is secondary (e.g. when turning pencils or in model making). Finely pigmented water-based acrylic paints are well suited as opaque airbrush paints for such techniques. They are easy to use, lightfast and can be mixed with each other. Water is sufficient as a thinner. As the colours dry Waterproof, they are also suitable for working on textiles, for example. But be careful, the airbrush gun must be thoroughly cleaned immediately after use!
What do I need to look out for in an airbrush colour?
- High-quality pigments. Their quality determines the workability, lightfastness and opacity of a colour. High-quality pigments do not fade even after decades and the original colour tone is retained. Very fine pigments ensure good coverage and enable easy application or precise spraying with an airbrush gun.
- Solvents. Spirit stains are solvent-based colours in which the dyes are dissolved in Alcohol content. Normal alcohol (spirit or 96 % ethanol) is sufficient for diluting the stains and cleaning the equipment. Spirit stains penetrate the wood surface and dry very quickly. However, the alcohol vapours are hazardous to health, which is why extraction units and adequate ventilation should be used, especially when spraying.Water is used as the solvent or carrier material for so-called solvent-free airbrush colours . Water vapour is harmless to health, which is why water-soluble airbrush colour (acrylic), for example, is also suitable for working with children. Nevertheless, an extraction system should also be used with acrylic paint, as otherwise the paint mist will spread throughout the room.
What are spirit stains suitable for?
The spirit stains we offer come from the woodworking industry, where they are used to match different wood colours and for decorative work. However, they are also ideal for other open-pored materials such as leather, paper and cardboard. They are very thin and can be used as airbrush colours, but are also suitable for application with a brush, sponge or scarves. They can also be poured into a refillable marker, which is very practical for wood retouching, for example.
What are acrylic paints suitable for?
Our opaque airbrush colours have been specially developed for use with a spray gun and are easy to apply even with the smallest nozzle sizes. As they dry Waterproof, the sprayed parts can also be wet or cleaned. In addition to wood, this airbrush colour is also suitable for work on paper (illustration), plastic (model making) and metal.
