These slender »Antique Stork« embroidery scissors are a real head-turner and are loved by many for their precise cut. Ideal for fine embroidery and needlework. Made of hard-wearing carbon steel, nickel-plated to protect against rust and polished by hand. Supplied in gift box.
The production process
  • Forging: The rough shape of a scissor or shear blade - known as a blank - is hot-drop-forged out of steel. It includes a drilling mark for easy and accurate alignment of the two halves.
  • Grinding: To start with, a 50+ year old machine removes the first layer, then further refinement is done by hand. This is where the cutting edge of the blades is ground for the first time.
  • Hardening: After all this hard work, the steel blades are hardened. The result: a rock hard blade that will remain sharp for a very long time.
  • Rumbling: Next, the hardened halves are treated overnight in a deburring and polishing machine called a rumbler. This is a spinning drum filled with ceramic pebbles and polish paste that remove the sanding marks and give the blades a smooth finish.
  • Assembly and sharpening: Now, the blades are ready for assembling. This is a delicate task, a highly skilled job which requires years of experience and is only mastered by a few. After the scissors have been put together, the cutting edges are sharpened.
  • Quality check: Finally, the scissors and shears are polished to a mirror finish. Only after the performance and finish have been approved, will the Ernest Wright name be engraved on them.
