Wood

Holz

There is no material as versatile as wood. What we make of it represents our responsibility for nature. There are no less than 70 000 wood species on earth. We present domestic and exotic species that are suitable for handcrafted purposes. The offered woods are not subject to the protection of species. Solid wood has growth related anisotropic properties, which means that it shrinks unevenly when being dried; moreover, it has a fibrous structure. This has to be taken into consideration when working the wood and also for its storage. Only the proper finish will bring out its beauty. We use natural coatings like shellac, oil and wax that harmonise with wood.

We offer woods for turning, knife making and carving. For woods for instrument making see our Musical Instruments Catalogue.
