Wet Molding Leather
Course details
The aim of this course is to create a perfectly fitted leather pouch or sheath for items such as knives, tools, writing instruments or a smartphone. To begin, you will make a wooden positive form of the object you have brought with you. Alternatively, you may develop a mould for a simple pouch of your own design.
Vegetable-tanned leather is then soaked in water, drawn over the positive form and carefully shaped. Prepared templates are used to secure the leather in its final form. While the leather dries, you will practise saddle stitching and edge finishing on sample pieces.
After drying overnight, the wet-formed components are trimmed to shape, stitched and, if desired, dyed.

Instructor
Peter Lanz
While studying ethnology, the qualified cabinetmaker already worked as a set builder at the Munich TV studios. He was working as a freelance art carpenter in the Munich Gewerkehalle. For several years, he has worked as a consultant for DICTUM in courses dealing with Japanese wood joints.
