This unique Sun-Roku Premium plane is crafted to the highest standards, showcasing its elegantly minimalist Japanese design and carefully selected materials: a plane body made of stabilised maple and a plane blade made of brass, laminated with ZW-V1 steel. The plane is set up by the master craftsman himself and ready for immediate use.
The Sun-Roku is a traditional Japanese smoothing plane, renowned for its versatility and widespread use throughout history. In accordance with tradition, the plane blades have a precisely defined width of 1.6 Shaku (65 mm).
The plane body, with its simple Japanese design, is soaked in resin and thus sustainably stabilised. This ensures that the plane sole remains exceptionally flat, and the plane body is warp-resistant.
The plane blade is a true masterpiece - masterfully crafted and featuring an intricate surface texture. The exceptionally solid brass body (8 mm) with a cutting edge made of V1 steel, specially manufactured for Zen Wu, ensures vibration-free operation and the finest shavings. The very good vibration controlling properties of the brass and the extreme sharpness of the edge guarantee outstanding surface quality.
ZW-V1 steel offers a balanced combination of high toughness and excellent wear-resistance, minimizing micro-chipping. Compared to O1 or A2 tool steel, it features improved corrosion resistance. With a carbon content of 0.85 %, 7 % chromium, 2.8 % vanadium, and 1.3 % molybdenum, it allows for an exceptionally fine and sharp edge. This alloy is ideal for precise fine planing and demanding cutting tasks.
The Sun Roku Premium plane is vacuum-packed and ready for use upon delivery. A handcrafted wooden case, signed by the master, is also included.
