In blacksmithing or art forging, the original rough shape of the workpiece is often subsequently reworked in a red-hot state to eliminate unwanted structural irregularities. The planishing hammer is used to smooth the forged surfaces and to align knife blades, for example. The lower part of the planishing hammer is inserted into the anvil’s square hardy hole (25 x 25 mm) and ensures an exactly flat surface and precise alignment.

    Krenzer Hammer is an historic tool factory in the valley of the Ennepe, a river in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany). It was founded in Gevelsberg in 1878 by Friedrich Wilhelm Krenzer. The last open-die forge still in production in this region produces special tools for various professions. The production facilities at which work is done today are almost 100 years old and still in operation.
