Measuring square and scribing square in one tool
This unique precision try square combines the properties of a measuring square and a scribing square. Previously only available as separate tools, the DICTUM precision square offers precise measuring results as well as accurate and simple marking of length and angle measurements. Made from a single piece of solid aluminium, the DUO is not subject to assembly tolerances, such as can affect multi-part squares with fitted handles. This guarantees consistent angle accuracy of 0.01 mm per 100 mm. The effectiveness of this measuring and scribing square is enhanced by the unique scale markings, which extend onto the narrow edge of the 6.5 mm thick, torsion-resistant blade. This prevents a parallax shift (the optical offset between the scale line and the workpiece surface).
The DUO as a measuring square:
DUO-250 and DUO-300 with angle stops:
The stock of the precision squares DUO-250 (No. 708219) and DUO-300 (No. 708280) is fitted with stainless steel angle stops. These can be removed using a slotted screwdriver and secured to the blade with screws at the required angle positions (10°, 15°, 20°, 22.5°, 30°, 40°, 45° and 50°). If the precision square DUO-250/DUO-300 is placed against the workpiece edge with the angle stop and the rounded inside corner of the stock resting against the edge, the desired angle can be marked on both sides of the blade.
The DUO as a measuring square:
- Extremely sturdy and torsion-resistant 6.5 mm thick blade, which prevents any bending or twisting. The high form stability allows precise positioning and checking, e.g. by using the light gap method.
- Thanks to the wide handle, the square can be securely positioned upright, for example on machine tables when setting fences.
- Inner and outer scale markings on both sides, as well as scale markings on the narrow edge. This design ensures precise marking and reading as it prevents parallax shift.
- Two rows of holes featuring conical marking holes for pencils with 0.5 mm lead diameter, this allows for precise markings at 0.5 mm intervals. Can also be used as a marking gauge – simply insert a pencil into the appropriate opening and slide the precision square along the edge of the workpiece like a marking gauge.
- The zero point of all scales is on the relevant contact point. The zero point of the inner scale is on the contact edge of the stock, so that markings can be read and scribed at the correct distance from the edge of the workpiece. A recess on the inside corner provides an unobstructed view of the workpiece edge and markings.
- Additional scales are featured on the 10 mm support lip of the stock. Its zero point is precisely positioned on the inner edge of the blade, allowing for simultaneous measurement of the length and width of a workpiece.
- Matt anodised, black surface throughout, with high-contrast white scale for high reading accuracy without unwanted reflections.
- Deep recessed grips on both sides of the stock ensure a secure grip in any position.
- Two holes on the stock allow the precision square to be secured in place, e.g. with clamping jaws (No. 714515), an internal thread on the underside can accommodate an M8 screw.
