Edge routers differ from routers in terms of their shape and the different bit holders. The Festool KF 500, for example, requires a special router bit, as the router bit holder is not mounted using a union nut and collet chuck, but via a shaft and screw for securing. Manufacturer Mafell, on the other hand, offers its model with a normal milling cutter holder with union nut and collet chuck. There are also cordless Edge routers from Bosch and Metabo, for example. However, many craftsmen prefer the corded version due to the high weight and poor centre of gravity of the cordless versions.
Edge router application area
Edge finishing is a work step for processing wood or plastic edges either after cutting or after gluing. This includes flush trimming cutters and profiling, e.g. with a bevel or rounding.

The associated extraction adapter can be individually adjusted to the working position.
