Tasai Damekiri Nomi, Chisel, Blade Width 6 mm

Description

The term Damekiri is used in Japan to refer to a particularly robust chisel with a slightly longer blade and a stronger neck. Michio Tasai emphasises the more solid construction of his blades by using the Tsuchime pattern, which is hand-hammered and resembles reptile scales. For the handle, extremely hard-wearing Sycamore wood has been selected, with its characteristic, striking medullary rays. It naturally echoes the scale-like pattern of the blade and its impact strength more than meets the design requirements of the Damekiri chisels. Hand-forged steel ring and loops. The back is polished by hand and the blades are sharpened and set ready for use in accordance with the standard Tasai quality. The cutting core is made of Blue Paper Steel and hardened to 62-63 HRC.

Manufacturer

Akio und Michio Tasai

The master smith Akio Tasai has earned himself a legendary reputation among Japan's metalworkers, especially due to his Mokume technique. His son Michio Tasai is following in the footsteps of his father, acquiring his Japanese sword-making license - the most prestigious accolade among smiths - at the age of 38 after eight years of study under the master sword smith Takano Yukimitsu. They use Blue Paper Steel, specifically manufactured according to their needs, to create the cutting layer of their tools, as this particular steel remains easy to sharpen despite its hardness.
