The history of the Zapf millinery begins back in 1770, when Peter Zapf is first mentioned in a document as a milliner in St. Georgen im Attergau (Austria). Since 1893, the Zapf hat manufactory in Werfen in the province of Salzburg has been creating and producing exclusive hats. The hats are still made by hand in the traditional way. A total of twelve employees lovingly handcraft unique hats for ladies and gentlemen in fifteen production steps with great attention to detail. In contrast to industrial production (in which the felt is pressed), the hats are still traditionally pulled over a mould by hand. The use of the highest quality European raw materials and high craftsmanship make Zapf hats very special and have done so for more than 125 years.
