Woodturning - Spindle Turning

Course details

At the beginning of the first day, you will become familiar with the lathe, its components, the accessories and the various mounting and workholding options used in spindle turning. You will then be introduced to the fundamental tools for spindle work, including roughing gouges, spindle gouges, parting tools and the skew chisel. Their handling and cutting techniques are practised immediately on simple exercise pieces in different types of wood. Sharpening on a bench grinder or a Tormek – using various sharpening jigs – is also explained in detail and can be tested by the participants.

On the second day, you will learn how to sharpen and use tools such as hooks, hollowing tools and ring tools while turning a lidded box, an end-grain vessel or wooden spheres. Participants are also welcome to realise their own project ideas under professional guidance.
We will work in small groups with intensive tutoring. Each participant will work at an individual lathe. You will have the possibility to test our whole range of woodturning tools and accessories.

Spindle turning:
Here, the wood fibres run parallel to the spindle axis. You clamp the workpiece either with a spur driver and the revolving centre or with a chuck.
