The success story of the Christ company began in 1954 in Hunsrück, when Werner and Anni Christ made patented mackintoshes in their garage with their first sewing machine. With the motorbike boom during the 1960s, production was switched to leather and motorbike jackets. In order to offer customers a unique product and to continue to stand out from the competition, the founders focused on sustainable and innovative products very early on. This involved constant advancement through the research and development of the most diverse finishing and processing techniques. With the aim of ensuring the best quality standards as well as gaining exclusive access to the highest quality leathers and lambskins, the family decided to set up their own tannery in San José, Uruguay in 1983. Thus, the entire value chain was in the hands of the family business, guaranteeing fair and sustainable production in every respect. At the beginning of the 1990s, the now second generation began to apply the many years of experience to medical lambskin products. They focused on equestrian articles and baby and children's products. As demand for garments and lambskin products grew rapidly, an additional garment manufacture was established in Cebu, Philippines in 1996. In 2017, the third generation took over the management of the company.
