Silicon carbide (SiC) is a synthetic material that is widely used in grinding technology. The extremely hard material achieves a Mohs hardness rating of around 9, making it harder than aluminium oxide, which is often used for grinding wheels sanding discs. Silicon carbide grinding wheels are known for their ability to remove material quickly, making them ideal for a variety of uses.
