Description
The ox leather for this handmade belt is made by traditional English tannery, Thomas Ware & Sons Ltd. The tannery has stood for artisanal know-how and uncompromising quality since 1840. The approx. 7-8 mm thick, original English oxhide is a tremendously impressive material. No other leather has such strength and toughness. The belts are made exclusively from vegetable-tanned full-grain leather taken from the back of the oxhide, the butt. This is the most valuable part of the skin, as this is where fibre density is highest, ensuring the longevity of the product. The pit-tanned leather is cut into long strips, pulled through round eyelets and stretched to form round leather straps, which are still used today as solid drive belts for various machines. Since leather is a natural material, variations in thickness are possible and cannot give cause for complaint. The belt is rounded off by a handmade bronze buckle. The belt is bulky and requires spacious belt loops of at least six centimetres wide. Each belt is unique, therefore variations in colour and structure may occur. The initially light leather develops a beautiful, natural patina through touch and sunlight.
