Woodturning - Faceplate Turning (Intensive Course)

Course details

We begin with a short introduction to the lathe, explaining its components, the accessories and the workholding options used in faceplate (end-grain) turning. You will then learn how to handle all faceplate turning tools and their cutting techniques – from the bowl gouge to the scraper. Practice takes place on simple exercises in various hardwoods. The sharpening process is also demonstrated in detail on both a bench grinder and the Tormek, using different sharpening systems, and participants will have the opportunity to try these themselves.

On the second day, we refine the cutting techniques learned. Depending on your experience, you will work on deeper or slightly undercut bowls and forms. For turning to a plan (using a drawing), the instructor provides a selection of simple project pieces. Under professional guidance, you may also realise your own project ideas.
We will work in small groups with intensive tutoring. Each participant will work at an individual lathe. You will have the possibility to test our whole range of woodturning tools and accessories.
