Wood Tools »Sheffield« Sculptor's Hatchet

Description

After more than 30 years, Sheffield is returning to axe-making — and doing so with remarkable quality.

Specially designed for fine sculpting and carving work, this hatchet also performs superbly in everyday tasks such as splitting kindling or shaping beam and round-wood joints. Each axe head is hand-forged from 100Cr6 bearing steel and tempered to a hardness of 58 HRC. The final sharpening is done in the traditional way on one of the last remaining water-cooled grinding stones, ensuring uncompromising sharpness and lasting edge retention. With a 550 g axe head, this sculptor’s hatchet offers exceptional balance and effortless handling – ideal for precise carving and controlled strikes. The handle is made of resilient ash and secured with an oak wedge crafted from a reclaimed whisky barrel – a blend of character, strength, and traditional craftsmanship. The cross-textured grip provides a secure, non-slip hold in all conditions, even when wet or under heavy use, while the flared handle end prevents the axe from slipping out of the hand. The included leather sheath is made of thick full-grain leather and offers durable protection for the cutting edge. Double bevel.
