The Kanna's remarkable smoothness is primarily attributable to its particularly thick plane blade, which generally must be sharpened by hand and set into the body before use. The Kanetomo planes allow you to forego these time-consuming steps by using a replaceable cutter. The cutter fits flush into a recess in the back of the heavy, vibration-absorbing blade. The razor-sharp cutter will produce first-class surface finishes even when working difficult materials.
