Description
The combination of aluminum and brass greatly reduces the weight of the clamp and increases its flexibility for use in sensitive areas, such as the bouts of antique violins and violas. While a standard crack clamp made of brass with a jaw width of 280 mm will weigh 100 g, this design with aluminum clamping jaws and screw heads only weighs 82 g. Rubber padded plates of the levelling screws as well as rubber jaws reduce the risk of damage of the repaired instruments. European origin ensures durability, precise and flawless action.

Herdim® Crack Clamps
These clamps are ideal for repairing cracks in stringed instrument tops and backs. Their low weight, which results from the aluminium clamping pads and thumbscrews, and their adjustable jaw opening allow a large array of applications in the restauration of stringed instruments.
The movable clamping jaw (1) can be easily set to the desired length. The clamping pad (2) is concave on one side and convex on the other and pivots to accommodate the exact contours of the instrument. The sliding jack screws (3) allow the crack to be leveled without the use of additional wedges. The double brass rods (4) are flexible and can be shaped to conform to the curvature of the instrument being restored. Brass jack screws with rubber padded plates.
