Description
For shaving large amounts of stock in the initial shaping of workpieces. Cryogenically hardened M2 HSS for up to 5 times the tool life of HSS. Drop-forged, deep fluted blades with straight grind. Stainless steel ferrule, waxed red beech handle.

Never use a roughing gouge for bowl turning! Keep the tool rest close to the workpiece and support the gouge as close to the cutting end as practical. Supporting it too close to the handle puts excessive stress on the thin transition to the tang and may cause the tool to break.

M2-HSS Cryo woodturning tools
Improved service life and sharpness without compromising the sharpening process:
Cryogenic hardening is a technically elaborate process, in which cooling is computerised and the steel is cooled down to -185 °C after hardening. After this treatment, the steel has finer carbides that cannot develop during the usual hardening process. This results in excellent properties such as a longer service life than with conventional hardening, a fine cutting edge with reduced burr formation and easier sharpening. Beechwood handle. Approx. 65 HRC.
Never use a roughing gouge for bowl turning! Tool rest close to the workpiece and support the tool near the front of the blade. If the tool rest is positioned too close to the handle, the thin section where the blade transitions into the tang can break.
