Course details
Students make their own table legs from a plank, using a portable circular saw and a table saw as well as a planer/thicknesser to remove the wane, true, plane and cut the plank to size. The mortises are cut with a router, while the tenons are cut upright with a flush-mounted pull saw (special work step). The table legs are tapered towards the bottom and are sawn at an angle using a special jig on the table saw.

Base frames for tables and chairs are often built using bars. Bars are squared timbers that are joined using traverses, i.e. rails, typically with mortise and tenon. The table will be made mainly with machine tools.

Peter Lanz
While studying ethnology, the qualified cabinetmaker already worked as a set builder at the Munich TV studios. He was working as a freelance art carpenter in the Munich Gewerkehalle. For several years, he has worked as a consultant for DICTUM in courses dealing with Japanese wood joints.
