The abrasive polishing or sharpening cloth made of waxed cotton is coated with fine abrasive particles. It is highly versatile and useful for far more than just polishing cutting edges.

- Non-ferrous metals: Polishing brass, bronze or copper fittings. Also suitable for silver and other precious metals.
- Rust removal: Removing light surface rust from tools (metal planes, blades, etc.)
- Cleaning cutting edges: Removing resin, varnish residue or oxidation
- Burr-free honing: Removing fine burrs or polishing bevels on cutting tools (linocut and carving knives or chisels)
