In the course »Side Table in Post-and-Rail Construction«, you will build a small table using traditional mortise-and-tenon joints. The joinery is produced primarily with machines – specifically a router and a table saw. A series of jigs and fixtures ensures precise, repeatable results. Designing and making these jigs and templates is an integral part of the course.
The side table serves as a clear example of post-and-rail construction. After completing the course, you will be able to apply the techniques shown to other projects in this style, such as stools, chairs, cabinets or larger tables.
The course is aimed at ambitious hobby woodworkers who already have some experience using a router and working at the table saw. Basic hand skills – such as sawing and chiselling by hand – are assumed. You should also be confident in preparing and cutting stock to size independently.
Each chapter explains the individual steps in detail. Numerous videos demonstrate all key stages clearly and comprehensively. Supporting texts, drawings and photographs guide you through the process and make it easy to follow and replicate the project. As a participant, you can download a course manual including measured drawings for the side table to use in your own workshop.
