Description
The Cruiser Jacket embodies the ultimate Filson classic. Patented in 1914, this jacket was specifically designed for foresters who scouted terrain ahead of logging crews. Originally made of warm Mackinaw wool, it was available either as a pullover or a button-front jacket. Soon after, a waxed cotton version followed, featuring double-layered sleeves and shoulders for added water protection. The waxed canvas served as an alternative to wool, and was particularly useful under harsh conditions like rain, mud, and thick brush.
In the 1970s, Filson introduced a version treated for water resistance but not waxed - and now it's back! The Dry Tin Cruiser Jacket offers the same protection from wind, abrasion, and brush as the original but is specifically designed for drier conditions, with enhanced breathability compared to the waxed version.
The Cruiser Jacket is equipped with four front cargo pockets with flaps, with the lower side-entry hand pockets concealed. On the left chest, there is a multi-layer utility pocket, and inside, there is an open stash pocket. The pockets have a flat design to prevent them from getting caught in vests, equipment or thick undergrowth. The back is double-layered to create a continuous pocket across the entire width, in which foresters could store their maps and surveying documents. This pocket provides ample space for gloves, a hat, a dog lead, or similar items. The front closure, adjustable cuffs, and pocket flaps are secured with sturdy metal snap buttons.
