Artistic Turning - Ball in Ball

Neu
The balls in the ball, also known as Chinese balls, are turned from a single solid piece of wood. In their hollow interior are additional free-moving balls with an increasingly small diameter. A wooden cube is first turned into a solid ball. By breaking through at several points that meet at the centre of the ball, we use the profile ball tool to turn out each ball from the base ball. In the course we will produce four balls inside of one another.
An additional and significant component of the course is the low-cost production of a ball chuck, without which the ball shape could not be made. This chuck is specially fitted to the ball diameter, is not easy to find, and is also rather expensive. Furthermore, you will learn to regrind standard turning tools.
The star in the ball, a variant of the Chinese ball, is made as a secondary item on the course. Additionally, we will turn a presentation pedestal for every ball shape, e.g. with a captive ring. Each participant will prepare two ball shapes.
  • If you buy a woodworking lathe for more than €2000 from DICTUM, we will give you a voucher worth €150 for a woodturning course of your choice.
