Carving Edelweiss

Carving Edelweiss
When carving Edelweiss, the first step is to split the pieces of wood with an axe or a splitting...
Edelweiss carvers used to be all over the Alpine region. Originally, this art was practised by lumberjacks to earn a little extra money or to present their beloved with a bouquet. The wood available in the mountains was used for carving - mostly fine-grained, knot-free spruce.
When carving Edelweiss, the first step is to split the pieces of wood with an axe or a splitting knife. You will be instructed how to work the petals and the stipe with a simple carving knife. Sharp blades are essential for this technique. We will therefore also learn how to sharpen the knives. This carving technique can be performed almost anywhere without great effort.
