Rasps

Hammering the teeth

Our Herdim® and Schwertfisch® rasps as well as our Superhard file rasps are indispensable tools for cabinet-makers, conservators and instrument makers.The effective surface of the rasp consists of individual teeth, and the density and size of the teeth varies. This results in more or less coarse surfaces which can then be further treated.

As also with files, the fineness of the rasp is described in terms of the grade of cut, from 3 for coarse to 10 for extremely fine. A new development on the market are Microplane rasps and Japanese saw rasps, which conquer more and more areas of use. Rasps are used for working hardwood and softwood, leather, plastics, plaster, marble and soft metals.

Files

Files are used with wood following rasping to smooth the surface, as well as for precise shaping. Their real domain is, however, metal working.
