Information on (old) electrical/electronic equipment

The following information is intended for private households using electrical and/or electronic equipment. Please observe these important instructions in the interest of the environmentally friendly disposal of old devices and your own safety.

1. Notes on the disposal of (old) electrical and electronic equipment and on the meaning of the symbol according to Annex 3 of WEEE Directive

Owners of old appliances have to separate them from unsorted municipal waste. Waste electrical and electronic equipment may therefore not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste and, in particular, does not belong in household waste. Instead, these old appliances are to be collected separately and disposed of, for example, via the local collection and return systems.

Owners of waste equipment must also separate spent batteries and old rechargeable batteries not contained within the waste equipment before handing them in at a collection point.

The latter does not apply if the waste equipment has been separated from other waste equipment in accordance with § 14 paragraph 5 sentence 2 and 3 WEEE in the context of the opting process by the public waste management authorities in order to prepare them for re-use.

By means of the symbol according to Annex 3 to the WEEE Directive, owners can identify old appliances that are to be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste at the end of their service life. The symbol for the separate collection of electrical and electronic equipment represents a crossed-out wheeled bin and is designed as follows:

Piktogramm Abfalltonne

2. Information on the options for returning waste equipment

In accordance with the WEEE Directive, we are obliged to accept old equipment or to set up appropriate collection points for the return of old electronic equipment for private households. Please contact our customer service team (Tel: +49 (0)9931 4058-901; Email: info@dictum.com) if you

  • wish to return old appliances in quantities customary in households with an edge length of up to 25 cm without purchasing a new product, or
  • want to return larger old devices and purchase a similar device from us (old device of the same type of device, which essentially fulfils the same functions as the new device)

You can also return your old equipment directly to one of our locations or to our dispatch warehouse: DICTUM GmbH • Gottlieb-Daimler-Str. 3 • 94447 Plattling • Germany

If there is a risk to the health and safety of people due to contamination of the old appliance, acceptance may be refused.

Owners of old appliances can also hand them in via one of the various options for the return or collection of old appliances set up by and available from public waste management authorities, so that proper disposal of the old appliances is ensured. Where appropriate, it is also possible to dispose of electrical and electronic equipment at these points for the purpose of reusing the equipment. For further information, please contact the respective collection or return point.

3. Note on data protection

Some of the old devices to be disposed of contain sensitive personal data (e.g. on a PC or smartphone), which must not fall into the hands of third parties.

We expressly point out that end users of old equipment are responsible for the deletion of personal data on the old equipment being disposed of.
