While a standard crack clamp made of brass with a jaw width of 280 mm will weigh 100 g, this design with aluminum clamping jaws and screw heads only weighs 82 g. Herdim Crack Clamps
These clamps are ideal for repairing cracks in stringed instrument tops and backs. Their low weight, which results from the aluminium clamping pads and thumbscrews, and their adjustable jaw opening allow a large array of applications in the restauration of stringed instruments.
The movable clamping jaw (1) can be easily set to the desired length. The clamping pad (2) is concave on one side and convex on the other and pivots to accommodate the exact contours of the instrument. The sliding jack screws (3) allow the crack to be leveled without the use of additional wedges.
